About Us

The Society of African Missions (SMA) is a catholic missionary society of apostolic life, founded in 1856 by Venerable Bishop Melchior de Marion Brésillac. The SMA is a community of Christ’s disciples, bonded together by their common response to his command to proclaim the kingdom of God:
“Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation” (Mk 16: 15).
The SMA members seek a constant personal growth in Christ in order to be an effective response to the missionary vocation of the Church, chiefly among Africans and people of African origin.

The SMA fathers founded founded the Catholic church in most parts of the West Africa including Ghana with the arrival of the first two SMA missionaries ( Frs Auguste Moreau and Eugene Morat) in Elimina on 18th May, 1880.

“Engaging God’s world through faith”

For I am convinced that neither angels nor demons, neither death nor life, neither the present nor the future, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God.
